Combustion and Fuels Research Laboratory

Research activities at the USC Combustion and Fuels Research Laboratory focus on the derivation of fundamental understanding of combustion processes. In particular, emphasis is given into the understanding of the complex interactions between fluid mechanics, molecular transport, and chemical kinetics. The research involves laser-based experiments and detailed numerical simulations. Both single and multi-phase flows are considered. Results are of interest to power generation, transportation, air-breathing high-speed propulsion, space propulsion, fire safety, pollutant emissions, fuel efficiency, and development of alternative fuels. The research is supported by U.S. Air Force, NASA, The Department of Transportation, The Department of Energy, The California Energy Commission, and Solar Turbines Inc.
