Hi, I am Kimberly Popp. I am a junior majoring in Mechanical
Engineering with a minor in Kinesiology. This summer I did research
in the Biomechanics Laboratory on the USC campus with Dr. McNitt-Gray.
I worked on projects involving the sports of diving and soccer. For
diving, I used overlays to determine mechanical differences between
different dive trials. I also digitized divers to determine segment
dynamics during different dive takeoffs. This is all to help in the
process of creating a mechanical simulated model of diving. For
soccer I created video clips to create an online soccer coaching guide
which is now being field-tested. I look forward to continuing this
research and I am currently applying knowledge gained during the
summer in my biomechanics class.
As a member of the USC and Trojan Dive Club, I continued training all
summer, including sessions with Chinese divers in Beijing and
Shanghai. I also competed at the US Diving National Championships,
taught beginning diving lessons to kids from my hometown, and worked
as a lifeguard at the USC McDonald’s Swim Stadium.
