Probe Sample/SMPS characterization of Particle Size
Distribution Function Soot is generated from a premixed flat flame. Particles are drawn into the sampling probe
and nearly instantaneously diluted. A
small sample is introduced into SMPS for particle sizing and number density
measurement. |

Small Angle Neutron Scattering Scattering intensity is detected by neutron scattering at
small angles. The intensity may be
inverted to yield soot particle number density |

|
Atomic Force Microscopy allows us to examine the morphology of nascent soot particles upon
impact with the mica surface. |
